      SAU football kicked off with a bang, as the home opener against Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday, September 4, ended in a 49-14 win. The highlight of the Mulerider win was that all nine touchdowns scored were by nine different players. The Mulerider football team will be on the road to Southern Nazarene, September 13. 2.    Southern Arkansas names Caroline Rankin as 2025-2026 Mulerider -

        Dating back to the 1900's one of the most significant and recognizable traditions at Southern Arkansas University is the Mulerider, in which this year Caroline Rankin has been chosen as the rider of SAU's beloved mascot Molly Anne for the 2025-2026 school year.       A documentary that was released on Netflix, Friday, August 29, " Unknown Number: The Highschool Catfish" shocked viewers after the storyline portrays a young girl and her boyfriend getting cyber stalked. Although many of the violent messages were telling both of them to harm themselves, later to be revealed that the author of the text was the young girl's own mother.  (Time News)



4. Trump seeks to rebrand the Department of Defense and the Department of War -

In his efforts to give the United States military a "tougher" look, Trump signed an executive order Friday September 5 to legally change the name. Trump relays his action of changing the name to the rate and successes of victory the US had when it was the Department of War.  (AP News)



5. First Social Media Platform Built for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Launches - 

   The first social media platform designed specifically for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, "Self-Advocacy Wins," is now available for download. Created and designed by a UX designer and autistic entrepreneur, Kelsey Oats, says that the platform will be easy to access, understand, and comprehend.   (Social Media Today)


6.    U.S. could take lead watching Ukraine buffer zone if peace deal with Russia comes together - 

    A buffer zone inside Ukraine would be created by a peace deal formed by both Russia and Ukraine. If these circumstances were to happen, the United States could take the lead and monitor the zone with technological devices along with the alliance of other countries to monitor the zone.  (NBC News)



7. Cowboys QB Dak Prescott gives his side of spitting incident involving Jalen Carter - 

Throughout a game, Dak Prescott "spits" many times, but the confrontation between Philadelphia Eagle's player Jalen Carter and Prescott led to the actions of Carter spitting on Prescott and Carter being ejected before the game had even started.  (USA Today)  


8. Miss Arkansas 2025 Kennedy Holland takes Preliminary top honors in Miss America 2026 Talent Competition - 

    UCA Student and 2025 Miss Arkansas Kennedy Holland captivated judges by performing the song, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", during the talent portion of the competition, receiving a three-thousand-dollar scholarship.  (KARK News)



9.     Giorgio Armani, who dressed the powerful and famous from boardroom to Hollywood, dies at 91

   The iconic multi-billionaire Italian Designer, Giorgio Armani, passed away on Thursday at the age of 91. Up until the days of his passing, Armani was working on his ready-to-wear clothing line that would be unveiled at the Armani Theater.  (AP News)



10.    Powerball over $1 Billion: Did anybody win Monday's Drawing?

   The winnings of the Powerball are now over $1.3 billion, after nobody won the jackpot on Monday night. This will be the fifth largest jackpot in history, with a lump sum payout being $589 million.  (ABC 10 News)




11.     Frozen Vegetables Sold in 6 States Recalled for Possible Listeria Contamination - 

  Endico Potatoes Inc. recalled bags of their frozen peas and carrots, mixed vegetables. They were recalled after sample testing was done of the finished products found listeria, a bacterium that can cause serious illness if ingested. Endico Potatoes has stopped distributing products and is waiting for the FDA to finish.  ( Today News)


12. Thousands of redheads celebrate their strands at a festival in the Netherlands - 

  Thousands of redheads from over eighty countries are currently gathered in the Netherlands for the annual "Redhead Days Festival" to celebrate the "family" that has been created around the world based on the color of their hair. The festival currently holds the Guinness World Record for the "largest gathering" of people with red hair.   (AP News)


13. Gilgo Beach murders probe leads detectives to Jones Beach after disturbing discovery near Rex Heuermann's job - 

     Police found clothing items buried two feet deep in the sand that were from the 1980s and early 1990s, just three miles from where Rex Heuermann, who is on trial for the connection of 3 of the 11 Gilgo Beach Murders, used to work. The trial is set for the previous murders on Sept 23, and the Judge has ruled that they can use the DNA found on the items found at Jones Beach in the trial.  (New York Post)

14.    Columbia County jobless rate continues to rise - 

        Columbia County's unemployment rate is up 5.8 % compared to June from 5.3% in July, with 7,949 employed and 485 employed according to the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.  (Magnolia Reporter)
